Summer Session For 4-5 Year Olds
Before children can read, they can develop life long skills that will support them as readers and as students – skills like comprehension, storytelling and critical thinking. In this fun, upbeat summer class we will be exploring language, illustration and story progression through age-appropriate books and original games. Children build confidence in forming and communicating opinions about the text and stories of their own. Complete with a syllabus and book list, this class is like a liberal arts course for kids. Each week, families will read the book of the week at home with their kids, so that the kids come to class familiar with the basic story. In class, the guide will read the book with the children, stopping often to invite the children to comment on what they are hearing and seeing. After the reading, the group will play games and do crafts that build their storytelling skills. While the kids have fun, parents will learn ways to support their children’s growth as active readers and active learners.Locations And Schedule

Policies
- We do not expect the children to “perform” in any manner or at any level. We embrace each child’s method of expressing herself.
- We encourage children to limit their conversation or movement only when it is hurtful to other Bookworms or absolutely disrupts book club. Otherwise, children are encouraged to express themselves!
- This is a “no dumbing-down” zone. We trust that children are inherently sharp and eager to learn. We provide age-appropriate material in an age-appropriate manner and invite the children to soak it up. We never assume the children won’t understand. Instead, we demonstrate concepts in a fun, light-hearted way.
