Meet Lara
Lara Farasat is a mother of two whose love of books and storytelling started at The Buckley School and translated into a degree in English from Vassar College.
At Vassar, Lara focused on Creative Writing and was selected to tutor fellow Vassarites in essay writing. She also studied English Language and Literature for one year at Oxford University in the UK. Lara went on to become a real estate attorney (transactional, of course – writing contracts) but her love of creative writing and literary criticism stayed with her.The idea for Bookworms began when Lara started a book club for her then four year old daughter, Alex. Lara wanted Alex to always feel confident when approaching books, to engage actively with the printed word and to be able to craft unique stories. She hoped Alex would embrace nerdy enterprises like studying hard and getting excited about a good novel.
Bookworms Philosophy
At Bookworms, the goal is for each child to develop a strong positive relationship with reading that lasts. Before children can read, they can develop life long skills that will support them as readers and as students – skills like comprehension, storytelling and critical thinking.Bookworms classes are like college courses for little ones. Complete with a syllabus and book list, each series develops age appropriate skills that a child can master. At the same time, no class ever feels like a “lesson” – it just feels like fun. Think storytime on vitamins.
